With 4.6 billion people, over 60 % of Earth’s population, Asia is the most populated continent on the planet. Asia is also the home of most of the world’s poor.
The challenges of development cooperation in Asia are numerous. Political upheavals and natural disasters as well as the stagnation of economic growth have battered the continent.
On the Human Development Index, Asian countries place among the middle class. However, in the countries of Southern and Eastern Asia, wealth and livelihood opportunities are very unevenly distributed both geographically and socially.
The rapidly growing economy, unevenly distributed wealth, economic crisis and growing poverty cause social and environmental problems.
A violent earthquake shook Nepal in April 2015. Thousands of people lost their lives. Material losses were enormous. Finn Church Aid is building temporary learning spaces, providing teacher training and psychosocial support to assist recovery.
