Fixing phones, building a future
Smart devices can be found in almost everyone’s pocket. When smartphones and tablets are with us in everyday life and celebrations, then that also creates new demands. For Nepali Ashok Rana, 28, those demands have meant the heyday of his own business.
“There’s a good market in this area,” Rana says.
Ashok Rana repairs smart devices in his small workshop in the Kailali region of Nepal. The workshop is located in a rural area, and so far, Rana has not faced any significant competition. Business is going so well, in fact, that he has considered expanding his operations—or at least purchasing a new location for his business. Currently, Rana’s company operates out of rented space.
Just four years ago, Rana’s life looked very different. As a child, he contracted polio and did not receive proper treatment. Rana needs a wheelchair.
“I’ve never had much help, and there are many things I can’t do. Despite everything, I wanted to do something with my life,” Rana says.
Now his dream of an independent life is being realized. Rana received support for his business from FCA sister organization, Women’s Bank.
Not only has he invested his income in his business, but he has also put it to good use and trained one person in the same field.
