Finn Church Aid joined President Stubb’s delegation on a visit to the United Arab Emirates

FCA’s invitation to the official delegation is a strong recognition that the work of NGOs is valued, and that development cooperation and humanitarian aid are essential parts of Finland’s foreign policy, said Ikali Karvinen, FCA Deputy Executive Director.
FINN CHURCH AID (FCA) was invited to join the official delegation of Alexander Stubb, President of Finland, during his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 19 to 21 November. The visit marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and the UAE.
FCA’s Deputy Executive Director, Ikali Karvinen, was the only representative from Finnish civil society organisations included in the delegation.
“FCA’s invitation to the official delegation is a strong recognition that the work of NGOs is valued, and that development cooperation and humanitarian aid are essential parts of Finland’s foreign policy,” Karvinen said.

The President’s delegation also included a group representing Finnish business, including Nokia’s Mikko Lavanti, andled by Antti Herlin, Chair of the Board of KONE. During the visit, the delegation held meetings with the country’s leadership as well as with actors from the local business community. Finland’s Ambassador to the UAE and Bahrain, Tuula Yrjölä, hosted a celebratory reception attended by a wide range of local and international guests.
One of the key themes during the state visit was comprehensive security. In his remarks at various events, Karvinen emphasised the importance of placing people at the centre of this crucial topic.
“When we talk about comprehensive security, the individual human being must be at the core. Finn Church Aid stresses that, particularly in developing countries, improving the wellbeing of those in the most vulnerable situations enhances overall security and wellbeing,” Karvinen said.

President Stubb’s delegation also visited the UAE Diplomatic Academy, AGDA. AGDA plays a central role in training the country’s current and future diplomats as well as representatives of the business sector. FCA has a cooperation agreement with AGDA, which includes teaching support related to FCA’s areas of expertise in various academy courses.
