Fca grants an additional
20,000 euros to venezuela

The humanitarian situation in Venezuela is extremely critical following the earthquakes in June. Finn Church Aid (FCA) has granted a total of 70,000 euros in emergency aid to assist in the humanitarian response.

ON JUNE 24, Venezuela was struck by a massive humanitarian disaster when two powerful consecutive earthquakes hit the northern part of the country. The earthquakes destroyed thousands of homes, road and power grids, and other vital infrastructure. As of July 7, the death toll had risen to over 3,500 people, and according to the UN, approximately 50,000 people are still missing.

Immediately following the earthquake, FCA began collaborating with its long-standing partner, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), which has been active in Venezuela for many years. FCA immediately provided 50,000 euros from its Disaster Fund, which LWF has used to assist people living in the midst of the earthquake’s devastation by providing shelter, basic household supplies and cash assistance to the most vulnerable.

Once the relief efforts were fully underway and the extent of the damage became clear, FCA was able to allocate an additional 20,000 euros from its disaster relief fund to the response in Venezuela, bringing the total contribution to relief work to 70,000 euros. This is thanks in no small part to the donations of individual people in Finland and globally.

“I want to thank everyone who contributed to the emergency relief drive for Venezuela. We have received enough donations to make an additional grant of 20,000 euros for this vitally important relief work,” says FCA Executive Director Tomi Järvinen

However, the needs in the areas hardest hit by the earthquake, such as in La Guaira and Caracas, where LMF is also working, are enormous.

“Help is still needed,” Järvinen stresses.
