FCA\u2019s invitation to the official delegation is a strong recognition that the work of NGOs is valued, and that development cooperation and humanitarian aid are essential parts of Finland\u2019s foreign policy, said Ikali Karvinen, FCA Deputy Executive Director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FINN CHURCH AID<\/strong> (FCA) was invited to join the official delegation of Alexander Stubb<\/strong>, President of Finland, during his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 19 to 21 November. The visit marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and the UAE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FCA\u2019s Deputy Executive Director, Ikali Karvinen<\/strong>, was the only representative from Finnish civil society organisations included in the delegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFCA\u2019s invitation to the official delegation is a strong recognition that the work of NGOs is valued, and that development cooperation and humanitarian aid are essential parts of Finland\u2019s foreign policy,\u201d Karvinen said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President\u2019s delegation also included a group representing Finnish business, including Nokia\u2019s Mikko Lavanti<\/strong>, andled by Antti Herlin<\/strong>, Chair of the Board of KONE. During the visit, the delegation held meetings with the country\u2019s leadership as well as with actors from the local business community. Finland\u2019s Ambassador to the UAE and Bahrain, Tuula Yrj\u00f6l\u00e4<\/strong>, hosted a celebratory reception attended by a wide range of local and international guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the key themes during the state visit was comprehensive security. In his remarks at various events, Karvinen emphasised the importance of placing people at the centre of this crucial topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen we talk about comprehensive security, the individual human being must be at the core. Finn Church Aid stresses that, particularly in developing countries, improving the wellbeing of those in the most vulnerable situations enhances overall security and wellbeing,\u201d Karvinen said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
