Could TVET be an untapped potential for successful refugee integration? FCA, ILO, GiZ and UNHCR have six recommendations for bolstering self-reliance for refugees based on a rigorous review commissioned ahead of the Global Refugee Forum<\/a> (GRF) 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

FINN CHURCH AID, GIZ ( on behalf of BMZ), ILO and UNHCR, will present a major systematic literature review on the economic impact of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for refugees and host communities at the GRF Education Campus<\/a> on 12 December 2023 between 14.30-15:30. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An official GRF-linked event, the Education Campus programme will consist of a series of thematic panel discussions and sessions designed to reflect on actions, innovations and contributions that stakeholders are taking to operationalise the Global Compact on Refugees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the launch event (programme below), panelists will discuss the major report findings and how can we  all \u2013 as donors, duty bearers or TVET service providers \u2013 make our policies, funding and interventions more impactful and sustainable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The importance of TVET<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

TVET<\/a> and skills development play a crucial role in enhancing self-reliance of refugees and host community people, through increased employability, building livelihoods and pathways to decent work through wage or self-employment. TVET needs to be of high quality and respond to market demands in order to be relevant and deliver skills that can be used in local labor markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet high quality training and services alone cannot deliver impact without a legal and policy framework that allows refugees to enter the labor market or create businesses to support themselves and contribute to the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like plaiting and braiding,\\\" she says. \\\"After finishing this course I will be able to support my family.
